Welcome to Curtis Bay!

The Southern most Community in Baltimore City

Assets: Curtis Bay is 5 minutes away from the Harbor Tunnel, the Key Bridge, 10 minutes away from the Francis Scott Key Tunnel, and only 15 minutes away from Baltimore's exciting Inner Harbor. Curtis Bay has the feel of the suburbs, yet offers a multitude of job opportunities in the industrial area, in the Fairfield Empowerment Zone, and in the United States Coast Guard Yard. Along a 5 block area of Curtis Avenue, you will see the "Murals of Curtis Bay", representing events, our history, and perhaps, our future.

Housing: Variety and affordability is the word when you talk about housing. Victorian styled row houses and individual homes. Some of these homes were built in the late 1800's and through to the 1990's. A small town with a feeling of living in the City and in the suburbs. Many row houses have front and back yards which is a definite plus for those who have children and those gardeners out there who just love to beautify their yards. Arundel Habitat for Humanity is currently working on several homes in Curtis Bay. Back in October of 2006, there was a dedication of 1605 Cypress St and introduction of the new homeowner, as a result of Thrivent Build and Arundel Habitat For Humanity. You can still purchase a great home in Curtis Bay for an affordable price, but time is ticking.

Terrain: Curtis Bay is known for its hilly terrain. At the top of the hills, is a magnificent view of Curtis Bay's Harbor, where you can see the industry, ships, tugboats, Key Bridge, and the most magnificent sunrise you have ever seen. At night, that area sparkles in a magical and wondrous way. We have a unique artisan Water Tower high atop the hills of Curtis Bay, located in the 1300 block of Filbert St. where you can see Curtis Bay's Harbor and the Baltimore City Inner Harbor as well.

Recreation for Children: The Curtis Bay Recreation Center, 1630 Filbert St., 410-396-1811, offers the neighborhood children a place to join in many activities, such as football, basketball, summer camp, wading pool, Chess club, and other fun activities. The park that surrounds the recreation center has swings, playground equipment, and a small pavilion. New playground equipment was installed back in 2002.

EVENTS IN OUR PARK - This year we had one of our most successful events called Curtis Bay's Movie Fest on August 25th - We had at least 400 people attend this event, which included a landing of the Baltimore City Police Helicopter, Fox Trot, Baltimore City Police Community Relations, Canine Division, Mounted Police, and Motocycle Police. What a grand day it was! Many school supplies and T-Shirts were distributed. Free food, entertainment, karaoke contests, fun, and beautiful, but hot, weather made this event a success. About 7PM, we had to stop our event due to an incoming bad storm, so we were not able to do the movie. We did however, just have the Movie portion of the event on September 15th, which was also a success. Many thanks to Baltimore Community Foundation, a collection of caring charitable organizations, for their support and funding for the event. Also, thanks to Curtis Bay's CSX Coal Piers for their donation towards this event, and thanks to the volunteers and the Curtis Bay Recreation Center who assisted with the event. This event was presented by the Community of Curtis Bay Association.
